Selling your home while also getting ready to move can be a challenge. You need to pack, look for a new place to live, and prepare your house to make it look appealing to potential buyers. Here are a few tips to help you get ready to move and prepare your old home for staging as well.

Go One Room at a Time

Trying to pack up an entire house can feel impossible. You might get overwhelmed and never start. Instead, go one room at a time. Start with rooms that you don’t use very often, such as bonus rooms or the basement, and work your way up to the spaces you use most frequently. Label each of your boxes so that they’re easier to find once you’re at your new home. Once you finish one area, give it a good cleaning, remove all of your packing supplies, and move on to the next.

Get Rid of What You Don’t Need

As you’re going through each room, separate everything into what you plan to take and what you don’t need. For the items you no longer need, get rid of them. Host a yard sale or post them online. There’s no sense in cluttering your new home with unnecessary things. You can also donate items you no longer want or need. In addition to helping a charitable organization, your donations are also tax-deductible.

Store Boxes Out of the Way

Once your boxes are packed, you’ll need to store them out of the way to effectively stage your home. The best option is to move them to an off-site location, such as storage units Petaluma or at a family member’s house. If you can’t get them out of the house, organize them the best you can in the garage or other out of the way spot.

Moving can be stressful. A bit of organization, however, can make the process easier.
